Google Adsense Tips

Adsense is a great way to monetize your website. If you haven’t already tried Google Adsense, there is a link at the bottom of this article. It is free to sign up for, easy to implement and can be a good source of income. Like anything though there are some ways to make Adsense work better for you.

1) Make your Adsense ads look as a part of your web page. It is called “blending” and you want Adsense to not look out of place on your site. As part of getting the design code for Adsense, you have the opportunity to change the colors. Take some time and make sure you match colors as close to your page colors as possible.

2) Use text ads over image ads. Overall, people are getting used to ignoring banners. I still believe there is a use for banner ads though if your site is in a particular narrow niche. Overall, text ads are considered as a part of the online document and are more clickable.

4) Placement. Obviously people can not click what they can not see. Make the Adsense ads visible. There are many opinions about placement and each site will convert differently, so don’t be afraid to experiment. First try your ads on top or on the side of your text.

5) Relevant ads. It’s one of the most important factors for Adsense success. If you have taken time to build a site, built traffic and have great content; it is very important to make sure Google Adsense has relevant ads on your site. There are a few ways to help Google decide what ads are relevant to you site:

  • Keyword – bold or italicize certain keywords or phrases in your articles. Don’t go overboard here and make it hard to read but a few should do the trick.

  • Make sure the title tag has the right wording. For example: Title: Blue Widget Article

  • Make your heading of your page stand out with either bold or (H1) tags. The first sentence or title of article should have this heading: Blue Widgets
