Buying a Domain Name

Introduction to Buying a Domain Name

There are many online registrars available for purchasing domain names, but in this tutorial we are going to use GoDaddy, a trusted and reliable source for online domain names.

Our first step of course will be to visit www.godaddy.com. Once the page loads, you will see a search box towards the middle of the right hand side of the godaddy website. Enter the domain name you would like to purchase into the box, and then press Go.

If the website domain name you have chosen is available, you will see something like this: Available
MYNEWKOOLANDAWESOMEWEBSITE.COM is available!

In addition, you will see a list of domain suggestions provided to you buy godaddy that are similar to the name that you have chosen. If you are happy with the name you are searching for, and ready to move on to purchasing, skip down to ‘Purchasing Your Godaddy Domain Name’

If the domain name you wanted was not available, you will see the following:

WEBAFFILIATECREATORS.COM is already taken. (click here for info)

Should that be the case, you will again find a suggested list of domain names below for your perusal. That list will look something like the one below:

If any of these websites will work for you, skip to Purchasing a Godaddy Domain Name below, if not, you may continue to search for domain names until you find one you like. Due take note that my prior search for mynewkoolandawesomewebsite.com was saved, every website domain name that you search for, that is available, will be in this list at the end of your search.

This is a very handy tool as it allows you to save domain names you are still considering while you check the availabilty of others on your list. You can purchase them all by pressing continue, however, if you are not interested in purchasing every available domain you found, uncheck the extra boxes before proceeding.

Purchasing Your Godaddy Domain Name

By now you should have picked out at least one available domain name and be ready to make your way to Godaddy’s checkout. The next step will be to press the continue button.

Now it is time to register for a GoDaddy account if you do not already have one, if you already have a GoDaddy account, use the first radio button option to log in to your account.

If you do not already have an account, choose option that says “I would like to ceate a new GoDaddy.com account. The rest of the form is pretty self explanitory, if you do not have a registered busines, just use your own first and last name.

After this you will move onto payment, which is available via VisaMasterCard and Payal, among other options. You can choose to have your card automatically billed, or make payments yearly as your domain nears expiration.

Domain Buying Notes:

  • It has been said that Google Gives more Credit to domains that are registered for more than 3 years.
  • You do not need to buy any of the junk that godaddy attempts to sell you on the next page, choose the ‘Quick Checkout’ Option.
